The ring landed in front of seven-year-old Rohan, who took it to his home. The embedded red pearl and golden look of the ring made Rohan seize it. He wore the ring without telling anyone, and there was no one in his house who could question him being so particular. His ten-year-old brother Shanku and his working mother, Remma, were the only ones caring for this six-year-old boy. Days passed by. On a Sunday evening, Rohan noticed a stranger standing in front of his house. The next day, while playing with his friends, he saw the same man again, standing in the same spot. He wore a long grey coat. Rohan was stunned by the coincidence. He ran inside the house and, with his innocent curiosity, said to his older brother, “Brother! I found this on the road, and the man started staring at me all the time.” He added, “I… I found this ring on the road and wore it three days ago. I don’t understand what’s happening, but the man keeps staring at me.” Shanku jumped, “Wow! I mean take me to where you saw him.” Rohn replied in his innocence, “Brother! In front of our house.” Shanku stood up and lightly pushed Rohan towards door, “Okay, let’s go. I want to see this stranger.” Both boys came out of the house. Rohan was shocked—there was no sign of the man. Shanku guessed that the stranger must have run away. Shanku was ready to take this case into his own hands. It was time to awaken his inner detective. He started his investigation: measuring distances, finding hiding spots, and using his camera to record every detail in an attempt to uncover the truth. The next day, at the same time, the stranger appeared again. The camera captured a man with a red-brown beard, coloured with henna. His eyes stared at the house. His appearance resembled that of WRITER. Shanku got interested in. Shanku mentioned, “Is this your stranger? He looks like a writer—books, spectacles, and yes, a beard. Hmm...” Rohan pointed himself out, “I don’t understand what you’re saying.” Shanku ignored, “It’s not important.” Shanku noticed that the red-brown-bearded man started moving toward the north. Shanku eagerly shared everything about his investigation with his mother when she came home from work. “Mum! Look what I have. Rohan complained to me about a man who was staring at him, so I decided to help solve his problem.” “What? Show me.” “Look.” “What nonsense is this? Shanku, please stop this nonsense. Focus on your studies, or I’ll take your camera.” “But I was trying to help!” “No, you’re wasting your time on this. My son.” Shanku nodded, “Okay…” Shanku's “okay” was just an attempt to calm his mother, but inside, his determination was like a raging fire. The next morning, Remma left for work, and Shanku decided to try again. His inner zest. This time, he changed his hiding spot and waited for half an hour but, the stranger did not show up. His mother’s scolding had failed to discourage him. His desire to solve the mystery led him down a new path. He decided to trace the path traced by the stranger yesterday in the recording. Sneaking in his slippers, he carefully noted every house to avoid losing his way. At the Chauraha (four-way junction), Shanku's mind went blank, and his procrastination took over. All the efforts he had put in were definitely in vain, and; his desire to solve the case faded. He decided to give up at this very point. He turned back and walked home, feeling defeated. He sat on the couch, looked at the clock, and called out, “Rohan! Rohan!” “Yes!”, Rohan answered. Shanku hushed himself, “I was in vain.” Rohan asked, “For what?” Shanku scolded distressfully, “Hey, are you sick! I’m talking about yo-uurrr stranger, you fool.” Rohan, admitted, “Oh!” Shanku added, “I waited for over thirty minutes, but… I walked in the direction he walked. Mum warned me to stop, but I…” Rohan irked him, “Don’t worry! It was just a case beyond your control, detective-SHANKU.” Shanku bluffed, “Okay, go now.” Meanwhile, their mother came home, smiling, with groceries in her hands. She handed them to Rohan and said, “Rohan, take this and put it in the kitchen.” In a murmuring voice when Rohan came close she asked, “Did he try again?” Rohan replied in yes. Episode I
